TITAN 12V 230Ah Underseat Lithium Leisure Battery
High-output lithium power shaped for low, restricted spaces
2,944Wh of real, usable energy in a low-profile 188mm sheet-metal case designed for suitable seat bases, bench boxes and shallow lockers. A custom 250A continuous BMS supports 3,000W+ inverter systems, while the 25kg battery provides comparable usable energy to approximately 143kg of lead-acid. Front-face terminals, two communications ports and a built-in hibernation control keep every connection accessible from one side.
Full 230Ah performance in a low, wide under-seat format.
This model uses the same capacity and 250A output as TITAN’s standard 230Ah battery, but rearranges the pack into a 315mm × 280mm × 188mm case. The front-face layout allows the other three sides to sit close to surrounding structures, subject to adequate restraint, cable clearance and the installation requirements.
- 2,944Wh usable, with up to 245Ah achievable in practice
- 250A continuous BMS discharge, with 280A for 5 seconds and 300A for 500ms
- 188mm high — designed for suitable seat bases, bench boxes and shallow lockers
- Front-face M8 terminals, two communications ports and built-in hibernation control
- 25kg — approximately 118kg lighter than the stated lead-acid equivalent
- Victron CANBUS and RS485, with NMEA2000 available on request
- Built-in heater for sub-zero charging — Rev 06 operating charge range down to −30°C
- Lifetime, transferable warranty
TITAN permits mounting on the base, side or end, but not inverted. A heavy-duty tie-down strap kit is included and must be used with an installation that prevents movement under braking or impact.
Will it fit your installation?
The “Underseat” name describes the case format, not universal vehicle compatibility. Seat bases and conversion furniture vary substantially, so measure the complete available void and account for terminals, cables, ventilation, restraint hardware and access before ordering.
| Motorhome / van seat bases | Measure first — confirm the full 315mm × 280mm × 188mm case against the actual seat-base internals |
| Campervan bench and seat boxes | Check space — the low profile may suit installations where height is the limiting factor |
| Caravan lockers / bed bases | Check space — allow for front-facing cables, restraint and inspection access |
| Marine lockers | Check space and installation requirements — protect the battery and connections from unsuitable environmental exposure |
| Off-grid cabinets | Check space — suitable where the wide, low footprint matches the available cabinet or shelf |
| Dimensions | 315mm (L) × 280mm (W) × 188mm (H) |
The cell chemistry: LiFePO₄, prismatic, individually graded
TITAN uses lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO₄) prismatic cells — a highly thermally and chemically stable lithium chemistry. No cobalt, no nickel, no acid and no off-gassing during normal use. Compared with the NMC chemistry commonly used in electric vehicles, LiFePO₄ trades some energy density for substantially longer service life and improved thermal stability.
Cycle life built for long-term use
A cycle is one full discharge plus one full recharge. TITAN publishes the following indicative cycle-life figures, with expected cycle count rising as routine depth of discharge becomes shallower:
- 100% DoD — more than 3,000 cycles
- 80% DoD — approximately 6,000 cycles
- 50% DoD — approximately 12,000 cycles
- 30% DoD — approximately 15,000+ cycles
Prismatic, not cylindrical
The long, flat prismatic cells use the rectangular case efficiently from end to end. Cylindrical cells leave gaps between cells and require many more welded connections, whereas the prismatic layout increases usable cell volume and makes module-level servicing more practical.
- Aluminium cell casings distribute heat across a broad surface area
- The custom BMS monitors voltage, current and temperature and temporarily disconnects the pack if a protection threshold is reached
- The heater mat contacts the prismatic cell surfaces directly, supporting more even cold-weather warming
Capacity, without the weight
TITAN’s Wh-based comparison uses approximately five and a half Exide ER550-class 115Ah batteries, nominally totalling around 630Ah of lead-acid. One TITAN 230Ah Underseat provides comparable stated usable energy in a single low-profile case.
25kg. Not 143kg.
The manufacturer comparison equates to approximately five and a half 26kg ER550-class batteries, or around 143kg of lead-acid. The TITAN Underseat weighs no more than 25kg, an indicative saving of approximately 118kg for comparable stated usable energy.
99% manufacturer-stated electrical efficiency
TITAN states 99% electrical efficiency for this model. Actual whole-system efficiency will also depend on temperature, current, cabling and inverter or charger losses. The product-specific datasheet specifies a recommended charging range of 50A to 150A, with a maximum continuous charge rate of 250A.
3,000W+ inverter capability from a low-profile case
The 250A continuous BMS provides high-output capability for appropriately engineered leisure and off-grid systems:
- 3,000W+ inverter systems: TITAN lists induction hobs, kettles and other high-demand appliances among the intended use cases
- Fridges, freezers and pumps: continuous capacity with additional allowance for legitimate starting surges
- Motor movers and winches: 280A for 5 seconds and 300A for 500ms to accommodate short-duration demand
- High-current charging: 50A–150A recommended, with a 250A maximum continuous charge limit
High-power systems must use appropriately rated inverters, fuses, isolators, cable sizes and terminations. Installation should be designed around the complete system load, not the BMS rating alone.
The TITAN BMS — matched, not off-the-shelf
The battery management system sits between the cells and the external terminals, continuously controlling safe charge and discharge operation. TITAN uses a custom BMS with parameters tuned to the cells fitted inside this specific pack rather than a generic, off-the-shelf profile.
This tuning allows the cells to operate close to their genuine safe working limits without compromising protection. It can also provide approximately 5–10% additional usable headroom: the 230Ah Underseat model can achieve up to 245Ah. Capacity varies between batches, and the BMS automatically remaps its 100% reading so the app reflects the capacity available in the installed pack.
11 protections, all temporary
The custom BMS protects against over-discharge, over-voltage, under-voltage, over-current, short circuit, high temperature, low temperature and cell-balance faults, among other conditions. The protection states self-reset where appropriate or clear when the cause is removed and the battery is returned to an acceptable operating condition. Premium MOSFETs, oversized heat sinks and correctly sized internal conductors support the 250A continuous rating.
Dual active & passive cell balancing
Passive balancing dissipates small differences between cell voltages, while active balancing moves energy between cells when larger differences appear. TITAN uses both methods: passive balancing begins at a 15mV cell difference, while active balancing starts at 30mV and operates dynamically at 1A–5A. Balancing starts above 3.4V per cell and is most relevant near full charge.
Self-heating for sub-zero charging
LiFePO₄ cells must not accept charge below 0°C without controlled heating. The built-in 85W heater system activates automatically at 0°C or below when an external charger is connected.
- The heater is supplied primarily by the connected charger and draws approximately 5.8A / 85W
- If charger current is insufficient, the BMS can supplement the heater with up to 3.6A from the battery
- The heater never draws from the battery when the charger is disconnected
- The heater switches off when the cells reach at least 10°C, allowing normal charging to proceed
- The Rev 06 operating charge range is −30°C to 60°C with the heater enabled
- Discharging is supported from −20°C to 65°C
Automatic & built-in user hibernation
A deeply discharged lithium battery left connected to parasitic loads for months may become unrecoverable. This model provides two hibernation modes:
- Automatic: the BMS enters a very-low-power state after approximately 48 hours when cell voltage is below 3.3V, limiting hibernation draw to 800µA or less
- User-controlled: the on/off control is integrated into the front face, so no separate hibernation cable needs to be routed or stored. Charge and discharge are disabled while the BMS remains available
Automatic hibernation wakes when the battery is placed on charge or reactivated through the supported controls.
Handles high inrush currents
Inverters, water pumps, motor movers and compressors can draw very high current for a fraction of a second during start-up. The TITAN BMS is tuned to tolerate legitimate surge loads without unnecessary shutdown, while retaining fast short-circuit protection at approximately 1,200A within 380µs.
Inverter & device communication
Two front-face communications ports allow the battery to exchange data with compatible inverters, chargers and GX devices. The default configuration supports Victron CANBUS, including VE.CAN and BMS.CAN, and is compatible with Victron DVCC. CAN and RS485 communications are built in, while other protocols, including NMEA2000, can be configured on request before dispatch.

Measure the void, not the old battery
Under-seat spaces are normally created or modified by the vehicle converter, so they vary even between vehicles sharing the same chassis. Measure the clear installation space against the 315mm × 280mm × 188mm case and allow adequate room for front-facing cables, insulation covers, restraint hardware, ventilation and future service access.
- Multi-battery systems: TITAN states that up to eight batteries can be paralleled for 1,840Ah and up to four connected in series for a nominal 48V system. The complete bank design, protection and communications configuration must be confirmed before installation
- Charger: use a dedicated lithium profile where available. AGM or “Sealed” mode is accepted if the charger remains within the required voltage range. Target 14.2V–14.4V; float voltage should remain between 13.3V and 13.9V
- Split-charge relays & DC-DC chargers: compatible when correctly specified and configured for the installation
- Terminals: high-performance copper M8 connections on the front face. Two M8 bolts and spring washers are supplied for ring-terminal cabling
- SAE adapters: hot-stamped brass automotive terminal adapters are available free on request; state this in the order notes if required
- Terminal orientation: install each ring terminal flat with its crimp barrel and cable pointing away from the case, preventing the eyelet from approaching the adjacent fixing screws
- Mounting: base, side or end mounting is permitted; do not install the battery upside down. Use the included tie-down kit and secure the battery against movement under braking
- System protection: use correctly rated fusing, isolation, cabling and restraints appropriate to a battery capable of 250A continuous output
Bluetooth monitoring & the TITAN app
Bluetooth is built in. The free TITAN app for iOS and Android supports 10 languages and displays the battery’s operating data in real time:
- Live voltage and current in both amps and watts
- State of charge as a percentage and in Ah
- Individual cell voltages
- Internal temperature
- Estimated time to full or empty
- Protection trip history
- Live balancing activity
The app can monitor batteries used in series or parallel and automatically recalculate totals. Whether the system uses one 230Ah Underseat battery or several in a correctly configured bank, the displayed totals reflect the connected batteries.
Lifetime warranty, transferable
TITAN backs its Grade A cell leisure batteries with a warranty that lasts for the lifetime of the battery and can transfer with the vehicle or installation. Groves Batteries Ltd, TITAN’s parent company, has traded continuously since 1948.
The warranty covers premature component failure caused by manufacturing faults. Warranty terms apply, and proof of purchase plus the battery ID will be required. Please contact us first so that we can coordinate diagnosis and any claim with TITAN.
Manufacturer’s illustrative ten-year cost comparison
Using TITAN’s £700 manufacturer price as the comparison basis, the 230Ah Underseat battery equates to approximately £70 per year over 10 years.
TITAN compares this with two Exide AGM EP2100 batteries costing around £1,040 per bank and an estimated four-year design life. Replacing that bank roughly 2.5 times over the same period equates to approximately £260 per year, before replacement labour is considered.
Module-based repair, not automatic replacement
If a serviceable component fails, TITAN can repair the affected module — such as the BMS, balance board or an individual cell — instead of automatically discarding the complete battery. This can reduce repair cost, material waste and turnaround time.
